Talib had a big pick 6 late in the third quarter to lead the Steelers. For Dallas, Abdullah carried 23 times for 118 yards and for Pittsburgh QB Winston finished 14-26 225 yards 1 TD. Oakland 17 vs Minnesota 30 The Vikings took a 20-3 halftime lead into the locker room and never looked back. Taylor was 40/21/324 and 3 td=94.2 , Matthews rushed for 97 yards on 18 carries, and Jimmie Graham caught 9 balls for 110 yards and 1 td. For Oakland Rogers went 36/23/201 and 1 td=87.8, Kelly rushed for 99 yeards on 9 carries and 1 td and Cobb caught 8 balls for 84 yards. oakland blitzed 66 times and had 1 sack. Next week Minnesota goes to Atlanta and Oakland hosts Indianapolis. Chicago 23 vs Los Angeles C 7 LA travels east to the Windy City and comes up very flat. Phillip Rivers struggled all day to get on track and achieved very little as a result. The first half was a defensive struggle with the LA defense bending but not breaking giving up two field goals. At the half LA actually led 7-6 although they had been outplayed in every phased of the game. Early in the third quarter Chicago kicked another field goal to go up 9-7, a lead which they would not give up. Two 4th quarter TDs (Alex Smith to Delanie Walker for 6 yards and an Ajayi 2 yard TD run put this one away. A quiet start for the Chargers and s stern message to those entering Soldier Field. Well called game by Terry who has a very tough Defense and an even tougher offensive line. As an aside, ALL of the Rams stood respectfully for the national anthem (I couldn't see the Bears through the ethernet, but suspect they did as well.) :-) New England 14 vs Los Angeles R 13 The defenses dominated in this season opening game between the Rams and Patriots with the Pats edging out a 14-13 victory. After the Rams punted on their first possession the Pats would go 69 yards in 10 plays and after a Freeman 13 yard run were up 7-0. After a run of punts by both teams The Rams Derrick Johnson would intercept Connor Cook after starter Russell Wilson went out for a few plays with an injury. The Rams would go 53 yards before Mark Ingram plowed over from a yard out to tie the game early in the 2nd quarter. On the first play following the kickoff, Wilson was back in and threw a strike to Michael Crabtree on a long pass for a69 yard TD and the Pats regained the lead 14-7. The Rams would move close enough for a FG to close out the 1st half at 14-10, Pats. After the Pats punted to start the 2nd half the Rams moved the ball for another FG to cut the lead to 14-13 midway through the 3rd quarter. After that, it was all defense!! Neither team could even get into their opponents territory before a punt and the Pats held off one last gasp series by the Rams to close out the victory. Buffalo 6 vs Arizona 9 In a game that was ultimately simmed because of connection issues Arizona kicked 3 out of 4 FG’s in the 1st half and withheld 2 second half FG’s by Buffalo for a 9-6 win in a game in which no TD’s were scored. Anemic offense as Buffalo only managed 237 yards of total offense and Arizona 241 It was a turnover INT that led to the FG that turned out to be the difference |
